Standing out in the crowd is this wine’s M.O. A traditional blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir, this Passetoutgrain is super fresh and light with lots of elegant cherried fruit on the nose — plus a faint touch of allspice and cedar. It’s a niche little number and that’s why it’s so impressive. Pair with French-style beef stews or gently spiced Indian dal dishes.
Situated in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in Morey-Saint-Denis, the house of the Domaine Georges Lignier has retained a traditional approach since the start. The domaine is led by Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges, who worked at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle, before assuming control of the work in both the vineyard and the cellar in 2008. Benoit’s approach is to achieve aromatic concentration in the wines above all else.
